ENTRANT'S EMAIL - 8/7/23
A final email about the inaugural Horton Heath 10K, starting at 9.00am tomorrow, Sunday the 9th of July 2023.
Your race organisation team has been busy this afternoon setting up the race village adjacent to the running track at Wyvern College. We have gazebos in place for registration and baggage drop. There will be four queues for registration and number collection, organised by surname... please join the correct queue!
The latest weather forecast is showing a 50% chance of a few spots of rain between 8 and 11, with temperatures around 17/18C.
We expect that the race will start at 9.00am. Please gather behind the race Start/Finish arch in plenty of time. The first 200m are on the running track. Although the track widens for the final 100m, please note that you have to run through the gate at the end, so this is a potential pinch point to slow down for.
Then there is a slight incline and a grass area to cross before exiting the college grounds into Dell Close, then left into Dean Road and left into Allington Lane.
Local residents will be aware that Fir Tree Lane has been closed and blocked off to vehicles and pedestrians for the last couple of months. We are extremely grateful to Luddon Construction and the One Horton Heath development team in allowing us to have a safe route along Fir Tree Lane. Luddon's have done a fantastic job in cleaning the mud and stones off the road after the recent rains, and erecting a fenced passageway though the constuction work, however extra care should be taken in this area. Please follow the marshals' instructions.

Then it's right into Burnetts Lane, left into Chalcroft Way to the 5K turnaround point, and then head for home.
Please note that although we have Temporary Road Closure orders for the race, the roads may not be traffic free. Our road marshal volunteers from Hedge End Running Club, and our traffic management team, will do their best to keep runners safe and also to allow residents to come and go from their homes. Please follows the marshals' instructions at all times. For this reason, in-ear or over-ear headphones or buds are not allowed.
We're pleased to announce that Hedge End Running Club will be providing a team of pacers to try and help you achieve that PB, or even just to get you round the course.
Pacers will be provided for 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70 and 75 minutes. Please look out for the pacing team in their bibs. We also have Jerome on the lead bike, and Jo bring up the rear to make sure everyone gets home safely.
Thanks also to Wyvern College for the use of their grounds and facilities, and to the site management team for their invaluable help. Please note that dogs are not allowed on the College grounds.
Have a fantastic race everyone!
Christina, Tim, Rich, Claire, Deb, Chris, Jo, Cliff and all the rest of our many volunteers!
